Welcome to RV travel life! Whether you’ve purchased your new or used motorhome, fifth wheel or travel trailer from …

Welcome to RV travel life! Whether you’ve purchased your new or used motorhome, fifth wheel or travel trailer from our Fife or Sumner locations or you’re on your way to enjoying the freedom of the road with all the comforts of home in the Pacific Northwest for the first time, here’s our beginners RV guide for safety.

If you’re new to RV, camper or fifth wheel travel, a few simple tips will go a long way in making your trips as pleasurable as possible. We want you to get the most out of your new or used RV on the road and at your favorite destination.

Be Prepared

Pack a First Aid and Roadside Emergency kit, just in case.

Include in your First Aid Kit:

Bandages in Various Sizes

Pain Relievers

Antibiotic Ointment

Scissors

Insect Repellant

Include in your Roadside Emergency Kit:

Flashlights and Batteries

Cell Phone and Charger or Short Wave Radio

Basic tools you will need (screwdrivers, wrench, rubber mallet, small hacket, jacks, pocketknife, tire pressure gauge, etc.)

Jumper Cables

Duct Tape

Lighter / Propane Torch

High-Visibility Cones or Reflectors

Fire Extinguisher

Map Out Destination Before Departure

Hitting the open road means you can go wherever you want to, but it makes for a better trip if you plan your route to reach your goals: to hit the sights, take the scenic route, or plan the most efficient path. Bring road maps and a GPS system, if possible. Do research online and in travel guides for your optimal route. Of course, leave room for spontaneous sightseeing and time to enjoy the journey!

Create a Departure Checklist

It can be hard to remember everything you need to do or check before departing on an RV trip. Create a checklist to make sure you don’t forget anything. Include things like checking tire pressure, close gray tank valves, fill fresh water tank, fill up gas, secure items inside the RV or travel trailer, latch cabinet and refrigerator doors, etc. This helps eliminate surprises along the way.

We want our customers to love their new or pre-owned Sumner RV fifth wheel, travel trailer or RV …

We want our customers to love their new or pre-owned Sumner RV fifth wheel, travel trailer or RV for many years after you bring it home. The best thing you can do to maintain your RV is by caring for it properly with regular maintenance. You can always bring it in to our RV Service Department to get it ready for travel, but there are things you can easily do yourself to keep it road ready. Always consult your manuals before beginning any maintenance.

Maintain the Exterior

Check the seals around your windows and roof every three months to look for cracks in the sealant.

Cover your RV or fifth wheel to protect it from the sun and cold weather. Harsh weather is the enemy to the exterior of your RV.

Wash it regularly with car wash soap, and don’t forget the roof!

Maintain the Interior

Check for moisture or condensation. It’s best to vent your RV or fifth wheel when showering, or boiling water, for example, to release some of the moisture. Ventilate year-round to avoid overly hot or cold temperatures.

Check your manual to use appropriate cleaners, as some can be overly harsh to surfaces.

Refrigerators need to be maintained yearly. Check your manual for specific instructions.

If you have an air conditioner, clean the filters often and run it often to ensure proper function.

Maintain the Waste Water System

Be sure to use the proper RV suitable toilet paper and chemicals in your toilet tank.

Make sure to drain the waste completely and flush generously with water.

Maintain the Fresh Water System

Use a water filter inside your water tank, and change it every year.

Don’t forget to empty your fresh, potable water tank when you’re not planning on using your fifth wheel or RV for a month or more.

These are just some of the things you can do to keep your RV in tip-top shape. Winterization in Washington is essential for your Fifth Wheel, Travel Trailer, Toy Hauler or Motorhome. Be sure to Schedule Major RV Maintenance with our Fife RV or Sumner RV locations prior to storing or dewinterizing each year.
