Cooking in Your RV Article from Sumner RV CenterOf all this things that you’ll have to think about when you’re on the road, one thing in particular probably takes up a majority of your thought process and planning: food. Everyone needs to eat, and if you’re traveling with your family, then full tummies is an easy way to keep everyone satisfied. But in an RV where cooking space is limited, you’re probably going to need to get creative with your cooking strategies. Sumner RV has provided some tips for cooking in your RV so you can try out some new ideas to make your traveling plans a little less hectic. Slow Cookers

Cooking in a convection oven can quickly heat up even a bigger house, let alone a smaller mobile home. Not to mention, it can take a lot of work and supplies to cook something in the oven and, depending on your RV, you may not even have an oven. You may want to consider alternatives to make your life easier and to free up some space on the stove. A slow cooker can let you throw a few ingredients together and forget about it for the rest of the day. Plus, it won’t heat up your RV the way your oven would.

Use the Microwave

A microwave can also come in handy. Many people think microwaves are only good for heating up cold food, but there are lots of recipes geared toward making entire meals in the microwave. With the right adjustments, you can even make some delicious chocolate lava cake or scrambled eggs in the microwave.

Grill

Another great way to avoid using the oven is to take your cooking outside. You are camping after all. What better way to get the full experience than to fire up the grill and throw some patties on it? This way, you keep the fun outside, where there’s more room and more fresh air to enjoy.

Keep Your Area Clean

While you’re cooking, even if you have a full kitchen, you’re going to be limited for counterspace. This is why you’ll want to take steps to maintain as much working space as possible. One easy way to do this is to clean as you go. When you have a free moment while you’re waiting for water to boil or fish to fry, consider looking around you and putting away ingredients and supplies you no longer need. Even if it means clearing up just a little space, it can help you out in the long run.

Freeze Pre-Made Meals

Another great way to make cooking in an RV easier is to find food prep alternatives. For example, a good way to prepare food for the first part--or even the entirety--of your trip is to cook meals ahead of time at home (where you’ll have a bigger kitchen) and then freezing it to reheat later. This will take all the cooking out of your RV so you’ll just need a few minutes to stick dinner in the microwave or oven.

Leftovers

Once you and your family have finished eating, don’t throw anything away! Save the leftovers for an easy lunch or dinner the next day. You can even take some leftovers and throw them in a casserole to maintain a healthy variety of meals.

Eat Out

Don’t forget that, even though it can help save money and maintain a healthy diet, eating out can be one of the most effective ways to make eating while away from home much simpler. Consider eating smaller meals, like lunch, at a local diner.

These are just a few tips, but you may come up with a few of your own that we’d love to hear about.
